Canadian National Vimy Memorial

A tribute to Canadians who fought and gave their lives in the First World War. The memorial overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point on Vimy Ridge. Carved on the walls are the names of 11,285 Canadian soldiers who were killed in France. Designed by Walter Seymour Allward, the monument took 11 year to build. Over 66,000 Canadian service personnel died in the First World War.
